Orc have launched a new “Connectivity Kit”. The connectivity provided through the Gateway Development Kit is integrated with the Orc Trading products. This provides Orc’s customers with the ability to expand their use and reach of their current Orc Trading installation. The Gateway Development Kit product is available in two versions, FIX and native. The FIX version allows for easy integration with brokers and in-house order management systems. The native version is available for latency sensitive trading business and also supports market data integration.

“We are very excited about introducing the Gateway Development Kit as it provides our customers with the flexibility and freedom to integrate their Orc Trading products with pretty much any type of venue or market data source”, says Jesper Alfredsson, VP Product Management at Orc. “During the development we have worked closely with a number of our customers globally and this no doubt has allowed them to execute their trading strategies in a more efficient way.”

“This is a material step towards a more open Orc technology platform, enabled by our new market gateway normalization design and a great effort by our engineering team.” says Joakim Dahlstedt, CTO, Orc Group.

Orc, a leading provider of technology and services for the global financial industry, today announced that it has integrated the Orc Trading products with Cscreen, NYSE Liffe’s global pre-trade price discovery platform, providing traders with a more efficient way of interfacing Indications of Interests (IOIs) for equity and index derivatives from inter-dealer brokers (IDBs).

The Cscreen integration provides Orc users with an efficient way to bring together their activities in the OTC equity derivatives markets alongside their on-screen trading. Leveraging Orc’s rich functionality in strategy trading, the Cscreen solution enables traders to quickly price and assess any incoming IOIs for swift trading decisions. Traders can now benefit from an aggregated, comprehensive view of total trading risk in both listed and OTC markets.

“The integration with Cscreen is a natural extension of our electronic trading solutions allowing firms to more efficiently manage their OTC trading flows,” said Jon Freebody, VP Sales at Orc. “As markets and regulations evolve, providing a tighter integration between OTC trading and electronic trading will allow firms to continue to grow their businesses.”

“This exciting new initiative brings together two leading service providers,” said Jason Lee, Head of Cscreen, NYSE Liffe. “Having more accurate information available in a more concise and aggregated view will give our customers the added benefit of a clearer and more informed platform on which to make trading decisions.”

The IHE European Connectathon to be held in Bern, Switzerland, from 21- 25 May 2012 will expand this year to include European nations connecting health records in the large-scale European Patient Smart Open Service (epSOS) project and will host satellite meetings for key e-health organisations.

An intensive ‘connectivity marathon’, the core testing activity at Connectathon for the interoperability of applications used in health information systems will gather more than 300 information technology engineers testing more than 120 systems over five days.

Connectathon 2012 will also see testing of the expanded portfolio of IHE profiles that assure the seamless flow of patient information. For the first time ever, the new Cross- Enterprise Document Workflow (XDW) profile, which enables multiple caregivers to manage patient-centric workflows, will be tested. In the Laboratory domain, vendors this year will be testing the Laboratory Analytical Workflow profile.

The maturity of tools developed by IHE-Europe will be demonstrated during Connectathon. The Gazelle test management platform that successfully managed the North American Connectathon held in January 2012 in Chicago will connect health IT systems in real-time in Bern, as well as enabling the simultaneous log-in of hundreds of engineers.

This year the European Connectathon in Bern will be managed for the first time by IHE- Services, a new organisation that transfers the team and the technology for interoperability testing developed by the not-for-profit IHE-Europe association to an neutral engineering test laboratory that now offers bespoke services for vendors developing new systems, as well as hospitals, national or regional e-health networks and other stakeholders.

The Projectathon returns this year to Connectathon, a testing event to be run in parallel for the large-scale epSOS project. New nations starting to participate in epSOS this year will test the exchange of vital patient data across borders from Bern, connecting remotely with experienced partner nations that validated systems last year.

These hands-on, real-time testing activities are attracting key participants from e-health organisations across Europe, creating week-long opportunities for discussion, dialogue and networking. Organisations planning meetings include the IHE International Pharmacy group, IHE-Europe and epSOS. During Connectathon the national IHE Suisse initiative, under the patronage of the Swiss Federal Council, plans a full-day conference, primarily in German, dedicated to key issues for that nation’s expanding e-health programmes.

Guided tours will also be proposed for groups considering adoption of IHE profiles to provide an inside appreciation of interoperability testing. Organisations that would like to hold meetings or take a tour are invited to express their interest and register at www.connectathon2012.org.

“Connectathon is a landmark moment in European e-health, and its robust collaborative model continues to embrace more actors and leaders to help advance healthcare IT for the benefit of patients,” said Lapo Bertini, IHE-Europe vendor Co-Chair.

Several of the best new advances in healthcare in Spain took pride of place at this year’s Inforsalud fair at the Palacio de Congresos, Madrid last week.

Judging from the lines of Delegates registering at the CEFIC and SEIS desks, 2012 will be a significant year for those that took the trouble to register – and above all for those that took space.

As usual, Microsoft, Dominion, and Atos were in force – Oscar Martin Healthcare chief at Dominion told us that he expects the private sector to grow the most this year – but pride of place hs to go to CSC Isoft – who had several people available to talk to us, were busy right from the start discussing new projects; the Gran Canaria Region, where their new Tecnicas division was available for discussion – and above all, the Talkoo “cloud” services from Cystelcom health. Cloud services data storage will be a key way for Hospitals and Regional Government to save money on hardware costs maintenance, and we will be addressing this topic later with Talkoo on these pages. Spain and Madrid will not be the first area to consider the benefits of cloud technologies; already, Slovenia is looking at this and our own sister organisation, CRTP, offers cloud certification to those regions that need certified approval.

Inmaculada Parras of Talkoo said “Our focus is in the international market, but we are starting our journey in Spain at a time which is necessary to incorporate services at lower cost. ”

If you needed any further proof that the mobile phone has moved out of the technology space – and clearly into the fashion space – then Barcelona two weeks ago should have proved it for you.

With nothing new in terms of exciting technology – the best Offer came surprisingly form a UK company with a cool technology for personalising your phone.

“WhosOnYourCase” (www.whosonyourcase.com) – has a unique polymer based technology for personalising a standard mobile phone with the image of your choice – and thereby opening the door to a completely new level of image conscious branding that will generate enormous levels of incremental revenue for the retail market.

The company solution is entirely web-based, which gives it portability and accessibility. In short, a low cost of entry for Telco retailers looking for a unique edge.

Moving On…. Our Prize for the most fun has to go to CBOSS group. Unashamedly Russian, the Stand featured great looking young Russian ladies dancing to great music. They are a serious competitor now in the Telco solutions/billings and consulting areas – but who cares? They had by far the biggest draw of people around their Stand.

Disappointing “National Areas” of groups of vendors, make us again wonder – why do these companies do it? They should follow the example of WeDoTechnologies, who (whilst being Portuguese), remain resolutely mainstream, have their Stand positioned where everyone can see them; and have a separate and remote Meetings Area.

Mobile BCN remains what it is; a meeting point, with some unique nuggets of gold if you can find them – but for 2012, don’t hold your breath.

The mobile industry needs to work more closely with other industry sectors and understand their individual needs if embedded mobile or M2M technology is to make a real impact, says Vodafone.

“The potential of embedded mobile will only be realised if operators fully understand the needs of specific industries,” Vodafone’s head of global business development for M2M, Marc Sauter, told Mobile Business Briefing, adding that industries such as the automotive and utilities sectors have different sets of challenges related to M2M technology.

UK utilities companies, for example, have the government mandate to move to M2M-enabled smart meters by 2019 to cope with. The automotive sector, meanwhile, is likely to have to deal with European legislation for all cars to be equipped with technology that automatically contacts emergency services in the case of a serious accident by 2015.

Both Ford and BMW have called for greater operator involvement in the connected cars space. Vodafone Germany recently signed a deal with BMW to install adapted mobile SIMs into the car maker’s ‘ConnectedDrive’ vehicles.

Another big challenge in the M2M space, according to Sauter, is the complexity and fragmentation that can be created when the technology isn’t delivered as a standardised managed service through a trusted supplier.

“As with all new technologies, both suppliers and customers benefit from greater standardisation which can help to lower the entry cost as well as offer enhanced capabilities. The industry needs to focus on reducing multiple standards and protocols which impact interoperability and inhibit market growth,” he said.

“Ultimately, the mobile industry needs to work together to address issues of fragmentation in order to deliver more value and higher service levels to corporate customers,” Sauter added.

Operators also need to make it easier for companies to deploy this technology. “Vodafone is tackling this by building an extensive knowledge of industry needs alongside an established network of global partnerships to support service and product development,” Sauter explained.

The operator group has created a dedicated Global M2M Platform to make it as simple as possible for customers to rollout and manage M2M technology, by providing a centrally managed way of deploying smart services through connected devices. The operator group also offers a range of M2M starter kits to help customers with device integration projects by reducing the complexity of installing and deploying M2M technology.

Another area Vodafone has focused on in is partnerships, with the likes of Bosch, Accenture and Intel being enlisted to provide connectivity, hardware and application services to make the deployment of M2M services as cost-effective as possible.

Operator support is also essential for device manufacturers, who have considerable M2M expertise, if they are to fully move into the M2M space and drive deployment of the technology globally, Sauter added.
